Climate & Weather

Namibia has a desert climate; you can expect sunshine year-round and low rainfall. Dry season falls between May and October, with approximate temperatures of 20 to 25°C. This is known as peak season for wildlife viewing. Nights are often colder, especially in the desert.

Wet season, also known as the green season, is between December and March and can reach temperatures up to 40°C. Rainfall typically occurs in short bursts in the afternoon.

Best Time To Visit

The best time to visit on our Namibia trips comes down to preference. May to October is the dry season, when wildlife gather around waterholes, making this a great time for safaris. This is also an ideal time to tackle the dunes at Soussuvlei, thanks to cooler temperatures.

See the landscapes transform into a vivid green during shoulder season, in April and November. Popular spots are typically quieter. You could even stop off at Cape Cross Seal Colony for the breeding season in November.

Customs & Culture

Namibian culture is shaped by over 10 indigenous groups, blended with German influences as well. The country’s official language is English, yet Namibia is a multilingual nation. Traditions, such as music and storytelling, are important elements of everyday life. An amazing way of experiencing local culture is sampling Namibia’s delicious food.

It is advised to dress modestly in Namibia and respect locals. Always ask permission before taking photos at local community events and during village visits on Namibia tours. Your trip leader will be able to advise you of cultural customs.
