If Machu Picchu isn’t already at the top of your bucket list, it needs to be. Picture this: ancient stone ruins cascading across lush hilltops, surrounded by a ring of misty mountain peaks. You’re in the heart of the Sacred Valley now. Whether you come here on a scenic trek or train ride, nothing beats it.
You’ll never stop talking about the time you scaled Acatenango Volcano. This is Guatemala’s most famous peak, where you can gaze out onto Fuego in the distance. It’s a full event, as coral pink sunsets fade away to reveal lava bursts under a star-filled sky… Suddenly, those 4,000 metres seem worth every step.
Rio de Janeiro roars with excitement. Dreamy beaches dipped in gold. Samba music and electric nightlife that never slows down. Your chance to tick off a world wonder, Christ the Redeemer. Those rumours are true… Rio is more than a place; it’s a feeling every traveller needs to experience. Say hey to your new favourite city!
You’ve heard of rainforests before, but how about cloud forests? There’s almost a fairytale vibe here, as you venture past giant trees shrouded in emerald moss. Listen out for bird calls as you go ziplining or cross hanging bridges in Monteverde. Keep an eye out for sloths!
There’s a reason why Chichén Itzá is the most famous Mayan archaeological site in the Americas. First impressions are epic, as you gaze up at temples in the heart of the jungle. Dig deeper into the history, and you’ll be in awe of all the little details here. You can’t help but imagine what life was once like.
Wondering what it’s like to explore the world’s biggest salt flat? Drive across diamond-white stretches under the clearest blue skies, stopping to play with perception in photos. When it’s rainy season, Salar de Uyuni transforms into a mirror, and it’s like you’re walking onto clouds.
Big, blue, and about to take your breath away. Welcome to Belize’s greatest natural wonder, a giant ocean sinkhole and home to the most stunning marine life. Hop on a flight for the best views, or dive right into the action. One look and you’ll see why travellers come from all over the world for this.
Cartagena has got soul. From café-hopping to traditional music, this city instantly makes you feel alive. You cannot help but fall in love with its Old Town, famed for its rainbow neighbourhoods where flowers bloom from the balconies. And how about those coastal views? Experience Colombia at its most colourful.
The theory of evolution was literally invented here. Blue-footed boobies, Giant tortoises, Marine iguanas... If the Galapagos had a soundtrack, it would be Jurassic Park. Spend your days island-hopping, losing track of all the wildlife unique to this region. This is what animal lovers dream about.
The ‘End of Earth’ has never looked so cool. Impossibly high mountains, sapphire glaciers, turquoise pools surrounded by silver… Go on and make the journey to South America’s southernmost region. Whatever trek you’re choosing, Patagonia gives you so much more than you came for.
Latin America stretches across two continents. You can experience a huge variety of climates here, from tropical rainforests and beaches to high-altitude deserts, mountains, volcanoes, and even arctic conditions.
Central America generally experiences two seasons: a dry season (typically November to April) and a wet season (May to October). As the bigger of the two world regions, South America’s seasons are more diverse depending on where you go.
The best time to visit on our Central America tours and our South America tours is up to you. Generally, the most popular time to visit Central America is between November and April. For South America, this can be May to August for some countries (like Peru and Bolivia), or December to February for others (such as Brazil, Colombia and Argentina).
If you’re looking to explore multiple countries, get in touch with one of our friendly travel experts. They can help you find the most suitable dates for your travel preferences, including big festival dates like Carnival in Rio.
The cultures that make up Central and South America are hugely diverse. Indigenous history, as well as African, Asian and European influences, have played a huge role in shaping each country. Yet each destination you go to has its own unique vibe.
A little bit of Spanish goes a long way here (or if you’re travelling to Brazil, practice a few Portuguese phrases!). Your group leader for our Central America tours or South America tours is the best person to advise you on specific cultural customs.
Entry requirements and visa regulations are different for every destination and your purpose of travel. We recommend staying updated on the latest official information before you go travelling. Your passport should be undamaged and have enough blank pages for stamps and visas. Many countries require your passport to have at least 6 months of validity beyond the date of entry.
For more information and resources regarding entry requirements, check out our Visa Advice page.
