Arguably the most exciting festival in the world! In April, a huge water fight takes over the streets of Thailand. Whether you’re hopping paradise islands or immersing yourself in the city of Bangkok, expect to get soaked in bucketloads of water as you celebrate the Thai New Year. The tradition began with rituals of splashing water over Buddha to symbolise washing away the year and bringing in a new one with a fresh start. Over the years, it has become one big country-wide water fight. It’s the perfect mix of fun and high-energy vibes all day long.

During this cultural festival, the waters of Thailand’s rivers, canals, and lakes light up with candlelit offerings called krathongs. People gather to release krathongs as a gesture of respect to the goddess of water. It is believed that you will have a good year if you take part. Set free a krathong to experience this magical moment and watch in awe of the water illuminating as your offering gently floats away. It’s an authentic Thai experience not to miss if you’re visiting in November.
